Life Stories From People Who Use Services
Paid employment has changed my life.
I recently started working as an Avon representative in January of this year.
I get orders from my family and friends alike and with some support from the North West Community Services Support Workers who work with me.
I have learnt how to manage the whole process of ordering, paying and distribution of Avon products.
I have gained in confidence and the Avon job means that I get to socialize with everyone who orders from me.
Work has helped me gain in confidence. I have regular support from NWCS so that I can go out on social activities and give my mum a break, but every Friday I also spend the morning in the Preston office helping the team with recycling.
I shred and recycle paper and I have helped them achieve the Preston
Eco-Excellence Silver Award for environmental services
I help out in a local community kitchen and here I am with an unpaid supporter.
Since starting I have passed my Health and Safety course and I am training to prepare basic snacks.
These new skills help me at home as I now live in a supported tenancy with three other people.
NWCS supports me at home and in the community so that I can live as independently as possible.

Volunteering is helping me to learn new skills I am a volunteer at a local church community centre. Here I am learning new skills and also getting to meet new people and make new friends.
My key worker is pictured here supporting me to do my job until I am confident to work unsupported.
Here in the picture you will see that I have just completed a Health and Safety course and this is my certificate.
I now help in the kitchen and also serve tea and coffee to visitors in the centre.
